Are you ready for MORE food?! Because I'm back with a whole bunch of photos from Day 2 of the London BBQ Food Tour I photographed a few weeks ago...
We continued around and I snapped away. Borough Market is a feast for the senses - all the different smells, things to taste, London noise and traffic and beautiful things to see everywhere!
I had to remind myself what we were here for - BBQ food - not donuts. Not these donuts.
Mmm, smoked meats...
And beautiful breads. There I was, distracted again!
As we walked by this stand, a man called us over to try a sample of the venison burger and it was SO tasty! What a sales trick. I immediately wanted one.
But we were en route to Gourmet Goat, a food stall selling goat meat in various forms.
My favourite was this pulled goat pitta, so carefully made with a lemon sorrel tzatziki, pomegranate syrup and squeezed lime juice. It was divine!
Next we wanted to try the Ethiopian Flavours stand. We got a box of Sega Tibs - prime steak meat and a box of Doro Tibs - free range and halal chicken, both served with two vegetarian side dishes.
It doesn't look great, but this one, Sega Tibs, was absolutely delicious. Beautifully tasty meat in a flavourful sauce, it was a little box of happiness. Once I tasted this, I understood the long queues of Londoners crowding this stand on their lunch hour. This was good food.
We left Borough Market somewhat reluctantly, and made our way to our next venue, Big Easy Bar.B.Q & Lobstershack in Covent Garden. It was pouring with rain and soon we were only too happy to be swallowed up by the smoky walls of this incredible restaurant.
It was a real treat just to look around this place, everywhere you looked was considered and engaging. I loved this wall of US licence plates.
The place has a real industrial-meets-lumber-house-meets-boat-yard feel - perfect surroundings for the inspiring BBQ and lobster fare.
We were thrilled to be offered a trip down to the kitchens to see the large smokers and the BBQ pittmasters. It was a spotlessly clean subterranean maze of culinary pleasures - huge slabs of perfectly smoked meat being prepared by a dedicated and passionate team.
Of course I just had to try a lobster roll. I've been dying to taste one ever since I saw this post over on The Londoner. And this one certainly didn't disappoint. Really fresh and tasty lobster in a tangy dressing and an impossibly soft bread pocket. A pure delight.
Next up was a visit to Cabana Brasilian Barbecue, also in Covent Garden.
I loved their bright and creative branding - it really brought Brazil to the table in our London surroundings.
The high ceilings and colourful kites also added to the ambience, making this place feel relaxed and informal yet special at the same time.
After all the eating we had been doing, I was ready for a really thirst-quenching drink. This was a non-alcoholic 'refresco' called the Fresh Limonada Suissa - freshly muddled lemon and lime, caster sugar and soda water and it really hit the spot. Definitely one I'm going to re-create at home!
We ordered a few small plates for sharing - the pulled pork sliders (three cheesy dough balls filled with Malagueta pulled pork), the chicken coxinhas (croquettes of shredded chicken and spices) and a 1/4 of ribs (a taster of Cabana's sticky barbecue guava ribs with a pot of homeslaw).
We also tried the Picanha Beef Burger, made from cap of rump (Brazil's favourite steak) with chilli mayo, tomato, matchsticks and black beans.
Last but not least, we tried some of their skewers - one beef and one chicken. They were served with a flourish at our table straight from their skewers and were packed with authentic Brazilian flavour.
And those were the best bits from Day 2 of our London BBQ food tour! I hope you enjoyed the photos. I've got one more day to share with you, and it was the best day of all...
We covered a lot of ground on Day 2, starting at London's Borough Market.
One of the very first stalls caught my eye - selling hundreds of different spices and flavours, I couldn't resist raising my camera for these.
