Return of the mixtape!

Do you use Spotify to listen to and discover new music?

I've had a 'Spotify Unlimited' subscription for awhile now - it costs me €4.99 a month and lets me listen to whatever I want on my computers at home and at work, and limited use on my phone while on the go. While the ads on the mobile version drive me a little bit nuts, I think it's great and I use it almost every day.

Spotify's latest new feature is a personalised playlist made especially for you that is updated every week. It's called 'Discover Weekly' and it's created based on what you've been listening to. So far, for me, it has created some pretty good playlists with new music that I've not heard before, and all right up my street. And the more you listen to music on Spotify, the better it gets. I'm pretty impressed actually... My latest playlist is above if you fancy a listen.

It's the return of the mixtape and it's making me happy!

If you have any questions about Spotify, let me know in the comments and I'll try help you out!

    1. There's something to be said for the simple things in life! It's true we don't need the latest box set or indeed the likes of Spotify! I have a more than usual obsession with music though and this is where it has led.... ;-)

  2. Do you find it uses a lot of data? I'd love to have it play in the background as I clean/craft at home but I am on limited internet (dongle) and don't want to use all my MB's listening to music.

    1. Yes it does. About five mins of streaming music on Spotify is about 3MB. That can really add up quickly if you are on a limited data package! I am with UPC for broadband at home and with Tesco Mobile for my phone. Both offer packages with large data bundles or unlimited data bundles. Hope this helps :-)

Let me whet your appetite...

In my last post I wrote about a food photography and styling workshop I was looking forward to attending in London. Well, the date arrived and I made my way across the water for a couple of days last week. And, it was amazing! This is the very first photo I took at the workshop. And it's a nice photo of a beautiful carrot cake that was part of our lunch spread on the first day. But it's a photo I took in my comfort zone, and by that I mean a photo taken using the 'automatic' settings on my Canon SLR camera. 'Automatic' on a SLR camera is a setting that will always shoot the 'best' photo according to the scene you are shooting. It is leaving all of the control of the photo in the capable hands of the camera's technology. And, this setting is wonderful and it was the safety blanket I needed before I could justify buying my SLR camera last year. But. One of the first things that Meeta and Jeanne , the workshop hosts, told our gr...

Our favourite baby things

Our little baby is 8 weeks old now :-) I can't believe how quick the weeks are flying by. Today I want to tell you all about the best baby items we've been using over the last eight weeks. If you or a friend are expecting a baby, I hope this might form a practical shopping list for you! Nursing/feeding Glider/nursing chair I love my glider. It sits patiently in the corner of the nursery, waiting for the baby and I to sit comfortably at any given moment! The rocking motion is wonderful for getting your baby off to sleep too. I got this glider on sale in Smyths for €100. Radio, clock and nursery lamp Beside the glider we have a bedside table with a radio, clock and nursery lamp. The radio and clock I already had in the house but the lamp was specially bought for the nursery. It cost all of about €3 in IKEA and it really is perfect for the nursery - all encased and not too bright. The radio is great company during feeds and the clock is all-important for timing t...

A new chapter

As many of you already know, it has been a tough couple of months in our house. In December I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had noticed a lump in one of my breasts and when it hadn't gone away after a couple of weeks, I went to get it checked out. I was convinced it was a blocked milk duct as I was still breastfeeding our baby - but unfortunately it was not and after some very stressful days waiting for test results, we were delivered the devastating news that it was cancer. It was an enormous shock for my husband and I, our family and our friends. The days and weeks following my initial diagnosis were the worst of my life and it was, without a doubt, only the love and strength of our family and friends and our beautiful baby boy that pulled me out of that darkness. Here we are now in the middle of March and we are soldiering through my treatment plan one day at a time. I am now more than halfway through 20 weeks of chemotherapy. And I’m doing well! Please forgi...
