Coming home from hospital with a new baby is both an amazing and scary experience – unfortunately, babies don’t come with instruction manuals. In the first few weeks I found myself worrying about what we would do if our baby stopped breathing. When our little guy was around eight weeks old, we attended this paediatric first aid course and we both found it really helpful.
The following are some important health/first aid links for new parents – from looking after coughs, colds and ear infections to fever management, what to do if your baby stops breathing and the signs of meningitis. These links have formed some pages in that missing instruction manual for me and I hope they might be helpful for you too.
Coughs, colds and ear infections
What to do if your child has a temperature
What to do if your baby stops breathing
The signs of meningitis
And while we may not have that elusive manual, we do have our instincts and the best advice I’ve received as a new parent is to listen for and trust those instincts.
